In our on-going efforts to reduce the projects' running costs, we came across Wonderbags. A South African grunder is today running a most lucrative enterprise in nearby Tongaat. A great number of African women are now involved in producing the wonderbags, made from the traditional South African fabric SHWESHWE. The bags are shipped "all over the world" and four of them have found their way to Endlovini!
The magic is that you reduce cooking time to a quarter of what it takes to prepare a meal, by placing your pot in the wonderbag and leaving it there to finish the job! , thereby significantly reducing the use of gas. Four cooks who are delighted with the use of this magic are, from the left Joyce Vundla and Nomusa Ngema, creche cooks, and to the right Bongiwe Duma, one of the hospice cooks. Joyce and Nomsa both work Mondays through Fridays, whilst the hospice cooks work alternately, one week on, one week off.
