I believe this movement has sprung out of a situation and need in South Africa. Overcrowded hospitals, short staffed and over worked nurses. Home Based Carers (HBC) are trained locally by qualified personnel for basic health care in their area. They are very valuable grassroots workers who do voluntary work in their geographic area. They are 'home based' and visit the homes where there is a need. Basic health care is given, improving basic hygiene and where deemed necessary, referring to clinic, welfare or hospice.
Our HBCs are also on the lookout for children in need of care or referral to our creche. We have 22 HBCs who work shift at our hospice - Enduduzweni = Place of Care. They are hand-picked from the larger group who service the municipality. Yes, they are volunteers but, they receive a small monthly compensation from the Project. These ladies are continually being offered workshops to upgrade them, more specifically by a Rotary member who is a professional nurse who trains nurses in geriatric care. They come walking to work from near and far, some have to ride the bus that comes by three times a day. Unfortunately, they are not in uniform. We have supplied aprons only. WHAT I WOULD LIKE is to start a specific fund-raising for these dedicated and wonderful workers. They should be recognised and visible and appreciated by wearing a uniform they can be proud of! This means skirt and blouse, shoes and stockings and maybe a hat. Will you help out? Use the hospice tab and mark your contribution "HBC uniforms" Thank You! Astrid

How about waking to the sound of birds, passing cows or children on their way to school, instead of an alarm clock? Then we have just the place for you! : A guest rondavel on the Endlovini premises. No, not luxury, but something that will meet your every need most comfortably. The rondavel sleeps two and is fully equipped. All you have to bring is your food.
(An extra rondavel that sleeps two more can be arranged) Should you choose to come a weekday, you will as an extra benefit experience the creche in session. There will be the possibility of viewing and purchasing hand made crafts made on site. It's a quiet, peaceful place, ideal for Time-out! Advance booking is necessary. The cost is relatively small, the proceeds go directly into the coffers that help keep the project wheels turning.
My first attempts at describing the area failed to do justice, even though I, in my initial report, described the project taking place "in magnificent surroundings and amongst beautiful people".
To help you see just where I am so fortunate to be, take a good look and enjoy ... There are sooooo many of who deserve my heartfelt thanks! From the very beginning of this venture, 2002, and through to this day, 2017! Family, friends, friends' friends, bible groups, friends who have celebrated anniversaries who have favoured Endlovini, Norwegian Church Aid, funds from Trusts, missionaries who still have South Africa in their hearts. THANK YOU for your support, your interest, your prayers and contributions that have made this project possible! The donations that have come our way have all been used in their entirety to the betterment and benefit of the community! There have been job possibilities, new buildings erected and old buildings renovated, furniture and equipment for the hospice, playground equipment for the Creche, water tanks for water harvesting, tools for the carpenter, uniforms for children and teachers, sewing machines, a treat to the beach for the children, seedlings for the vegetable garden ... to mention just a very few! YOU and the Good Lord have made this possible! I hope you will enjoy following us as we proceed, on this blog that is now created! Astrid |
