Last week we spoke of the magic of Wonderbags. This week, the magic of solar power! Solar lamps, an award winning Norwegian product that, when fully charged, can produce 100 hours light time. We received a gift (actually a Christmas gift to yours truly), of a solar lamp that is going to have a significant impact in homes in the Endlovini area. Most of the homes here do not yet have electricity installed, especially not my ladies.... then..... ..... when I, as a Norwegian Church Aid pensioner, was recently called upon to volunteer a day or two in their reception in Oslo, I found that THEY were selling such lamps from their net shop. Perfect for Endlovini! I immediately purchased five. So, six lamps are now to be found in homesteads in the hills in this area! On one of my recent SA sojourns I had a small "hello-ladies-gift " for each of them - a small LED torchlight. The following morning Khethiwe told me she had tied the flashlight to her head so that she could continue sewing after dark! She was one of the first lucky ones to receive a solar lamp! This solar device also functions as a USB phone charger, so the ladies can offer charging services to their neighbors, at a small cost, giving welcome coins in the kitty. How clever!!
